More than 1 in 3 physicians in the United States use Epocrates clinical software to reference prescribing and safety information, including flu treatment and prevention recommendations. To promote awareness and explore correlations with flu activity, Epocrates gathered data about the number of times doctors referenced Tamiflu prescribing information in its handheld product.

The total number of times oseltamivir (Tamiflu) was looked up in Epocrates Rx¨ by physicians during a given week divided by the number of physicians actively using Epocrates in that region. Despite multiple inherent limitations when extrapolating from drug reference lookups to actual disease activity, these data raise the possibility that there may be an indirect correlation. This theoretical correlation has not been confirmed.
