New Bipolar MDQ Screening Tool for Palm OS

This new free application for Palm OS devices facilitates initial screening of patients for bipolar disorder.

The Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ) is a 13-item checklist developed by Robert M. A. Hirschfeld, MD, and published in The American Journal of Psychiatry. Any patient who screens positive on the MDQ should have a full evaluation for bipolar disorder or for diseases presenting similar symptoms before a diagnosis is determined.

Updated Endocarditis Prophylaxis Information

The Endocarditis Prophylaxis tables and related drug monographs in Epocrates mobile and online products have been updated to reflect newly published American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. The AHA last updated these guidelines in 1997.

Major changes include the removal of many cardiac conditions for which prophylaxis was previously recommended, including mitral valve prolapse, and elimination of cardiac condition risk stratification. In addition, recommendations for prophylaxis concurrent to gastrointestinal and genitourinary procedures have been completely removed.

To review the updated adult and pediatric Endocarditis Prophylaxis tables on your mobile device, AutoUpdate (sync), then tap on the Tables icon tables icon in your "my" tab or black bag tab. Select the "Antibiotic Regimens" category, or tap "By Name" to find them alphabetically. (Tables are also available in Epocrates Online Premium web-based drug reference.)
